Sleeping Giant
Philly chanteuse Rucyl and her fiancé, King Britt, collaborate on a beast of a multimedia affair.
A singer for all galaxies
King Britt and Rucyl have differing ideas as to what exactly a “science-fiction singer” is. For Britt, the label conjures the image of the opera-singing, blue-skinned alien from Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element. (click the headline above to read more)
Available today (August 2), is the debut album by Saturn Never Sleeps, the experimental electronic duo of producer/DJ, King Britt and science fiction singer/producer, Rucyl, titled Yesterday’s Machine. In 2009, the experiment began when the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia commissioned them to create a presentation based around the prolific jazz bandleader-composer Sun Ra. Jumping at the chance, King and Rucyl created two shows of electronic improvisation, which turned into a curated monthly event, a label and now, a full-length album—the result of love, labor and many opportunities presenting themselves. Yesterday’s Machine combines an experimental create-in-the-moment vibe with inspirational lyrics and vocal sonics that range from Sade tones to Flora Purim’s ethereal layers. The result is a well crafted, intelligent, genre-pushing, electronic soul rooted in the duo’s collective years of experience and musical expanse. As Gal Ofer from the famous Breakfast Club in Tel Aviv put it, “Its like Massive Attack…with balls!”

Here is a sneak peek snap that I took from the photo session for Yay 9 apparel, a local (Philadelphia, PA) company, and my client. It is about to launch a new line of tees and other accessories for girlies and for boys who like girly things.
